This is my first blog entry so I have absolutely no clue as to where to start in my many miss-adventures. My wife talked me into starting a blog several months ago but I just didn’t have the inspiration to start… until now.
I guess I can start with addressing the passion to create and the incredible sense of fulfillment when a seemingly rigid hunk of steel bends and flows to brute force. It just really amazes me when an artist takes a piece of their medium (wood/steel/stone/canvas) and allows the art to come out of it. To me, the definition of art is to listen and work the medium into whatever it wants to be. Forging utilitarian items can be far more difficult when the steel wants to be something other than what you want it be, but when you win the fight you're rewarded with an unequaled sense of accomplishment.
In my opinion, as a man, I believe that psychologically the inability to fully create and nurture life leaves us with no alternative but to create with art, science, technology, etc. The need is so strong that if you ask any man (especially me) how they feel about their car/gun/computer/sports, the unanimous and unequivocal reply will be “That’s my baby.” If it’s a tangible item then the next logical question is “What’s its name?” LOL
I wholeheartedly believe that I was born in the wrong time period and would have been better suited for medieval times. But, having said that, I would have died miserably at age 22 from “Evil Spirits” (appendicitis.) Worse yet, the medical treatments with mercury poultices or blood letting would have probably finished me off before the infection killed me.
Well that's all for now... see you later.
